During the first two weeks, participants are only allowed to consume around 1,000 calories a day. It is a mixed diet with very few carbohydrates, lots of vegetables, some fruit and a slightly increased protein content. In this respect, the diet is similar to popular recommendations for weight loss. A negative energy balance causes everyone to lose weight. So far, so logical.

So far there is a lack of scientific evidence that the individual criteria, which are based on certain blood values, have a basis. Independent experts advise against the diet. This is how the consumer advice center NRW states: "The menu appears to be very limited both in terms of food selection and caloric (according to the provider, only the basal metabolic rate is covered). The dietary rules are very strict, the strict and quantitatively very detailed allocations to food (accurate to the gram in the strict phase) are incomprehensible to us."

A central point of criticism expressed by the consumer advocates is that it is also "scientifically incomprehensible" is why personal recommendations are made when dieting. One participant in the program should eat mozzarella and papaya, for example, and another ricotta and rhubarb. This weight loss concept is also one of the so-called metabolic diets, in which, depending on the type, only certain things are allowed to be eaten. The program is based on the belief that one becomes fat from nutrients like carbohydrates and the other from fats. The rate of combustion, the nervous system and the respective type of gland should be relevant. So should the individual activity of the nervous system "Fast burners" and "Slow burners" bring forth. Max Planck Diet

This program does not come from the Max Planck Society. The research association distanced itself from this diet years ago. 

In the weight loss program, which only lasts two weeks, the menu mainly includes proteins with meat and eggs, but also vegetables. There is massive savings in carbohydrates and the diet is also low in fat. So it’s a strict low-carb program that extremely restricts calorie intake overall. An average of 600 calories are allowed per day. Black tea and coffee with lemon are also central to this concept. Weight loss works with the so-called Max Planck Diet simply because the daily intake of calories is far below the average basal metabolic rate. Serious nutrition experts cannot recommend the reduction diet. It is extremely one-sided and does not lead to deficiency symptoms because it is not designed to last.

Conclusion on metabolic diets

There are many so-called metabolic diets. The article does not claim to be complete. What all of these programs have in common is that they lack a scientific basis. You can certainly lose weight with the diets mentioned here, a health benefit that goes beyond normal diet programs by recognized nutrition experts does not currently exist. On the contrary: If the diets are too one-sided, they are harmful, at least if you follow them for a longer period of time.
